The Diary of a Golden Child

After 30+ years of owning Collies I made an impulsive decision and bought a

Golden Child. I have wanted a Goldie for many years but the timing was never just right. Then 2 weeks ago this little bundle of glorious golden appeared on my news feed bred by some good friends. I fell in love with her there and then and

arranged to make the 4 hour round trip to see

her. As soon as I met her I knew it was meant to

be. Preparations rapidly underway to prepare

for her arrival.

Two weeks later she strutted into our house.

Arrival Day - Day 1

Woke up very excited. An early start to drive to the North East to collect her. Rita traveled home curled up on the backseat with Ewan. The perfect passenger all the way home. She came into the house and went straight outside to the toilet.

We carefully introduced her to the collies one at a time (they were NOT amused) but my perfect golden child was very respectful of them and didn’t push her luck.

The rest of the day was spent exploring her new surroundings. She was completely unfazed by the whole experience. New toys are great fun when you don’t have to share with your brothers and sisters. Exploring is exhausting!

At 10pm she took herself to bed.

The collies and I soon retired to bed also exhausted. We didn’t hear a peep out of her until 6:30 (5:30 really) the following morning.

Day 2

5:30 am and Rita has lungs! She was so excited to see me, her tail wagging from her shoulders. I was pleasantly surprised to fine a bone dry crate. Straight outside we went, toilet then breakfast.

We went for a little ride in the car to visit her adoring fans. The big cage in the car is a bit scary and to begin with her lungs got a little bit more exercise. However after a few minutes she lay down and went to sleep.

Visiting my mums dogs was very exciting, Hamish

actually wanted to play with her, they had a blast

doing zoomies around the table. New best friends. He even let her play with his toys.

No formal training is taking place right now. We are bonding and building relationships. Toilet and crate training is going very well. I can’t wait to see what adventures we have together!
